French Africa discovers its first case of coronavirus

Senegal has just discovered its first case of coronavirus. This is a second case in sub-Saharan Africa and the fifth on the African continent.

Senegal has been added to the shortlist of African countries with confirmed cases of coronavirus. This Monday, March 2, authorities said that a Frenchman who arrived in Dakar last Saturday was tested positive for the virus at the “Institut Pasteur”.

The latter joined the country on a flight via Air Senegal. The Ministry of Health and Welfare asked the manifesto to follow the passengers on this flight. President Macky Sall chaired a state council focused exclusively on covid-19 on Monday.

It is therefore the fifth confirmed case on the African continent after two in Egypt and that of Algeria and Nigeria.

Till date, the death toll has crossed the threshold of 3000 deaths worldwide. China, whose city of Wuhan remains the home of the epidemic, has experienced less spread in recent days, to the detriment of Europe, Iran and South Korea, which report other infections.

WHO has raised the alert level calling on the world to prepare for a possible pandemic.
