Football legend Maradona dies at age 60 from a heart attack. The football icon was recovering at his home in Tigre after undergoing a brain surgery at the start of November.
Medical tests at the “La Plata” clinic revealed a blood clot on the brain, which doctors later revealed was operated successfully.
But Maradona suffered cardiac arrest on Wednesday morning, and paramedics at the scene failed to revive him.
Maradona began his professional career with Argentinos Juniors at the age of 16 and went on to be considered as one of the greatest players ever to step onto a football field.
He will be forever remembered for his mesmerising displays on the football pitch and his ability to lead his team to victory in matches that seemed impossible. Up amongst the best was his display against England in the 1986 world cup quarter finals. Producing a display that won the hearts of football fans all over the world and a goal that is still considered till date to be that greatest goal in world cup history.
During his playing career,Maradona famously captained Argemtina to their second world cup glory in 1986. He won 91 international caps for the “Albiceleste”, scoring a total of 34 goal for the national team.
During his club career, the man Jose Mourinho ranks as the third greatest football players of all time played for some of the great names of football most notably Fc Barcelona and SSC Napoli, making a total of 490 club appearances during his 21 years professional career and scoring 259 goals.
Football has lost some legendary players since the start of the 21st century. Diego Armando Maradona is right up there with the greatest losses that global football has had to deal with.
Tributes have been paid to him amongst whom is the Brazilian icon who says that “he’s lost a dear friend, and the world has lost a legend”. Also, French football legend and former present of the European football Association Michel Platini says that ” it is our football history that has left us”. What a lost for Argentina and Football as a whole.
The world would never see another Maradona. We may never also see a player that uses the “hand of God” to score a goal. Adios Diego, adios leyenda del futbol, tus fans nunca te olvidaran.
