Ben Decca from his real name Benjamin Decca was born on February 23 , 1958 in Douala . He is a Cameroonian musician , singer and songwriter , known for his perculier verve which he uses in writing makossa songs.

He is the second of a family of 11 children made up of 3 boys and 8 girls.He is the older brother of Grace Decca , Dora Decca and Isaac Decca , Makossa artists well known in the Cameroonian music scene .

Raised in a deeply Christian family, he started with modesty and humility from an early age. Little Ben grew up surrounded by his brothers and sisters who were also touched later by the call of music. It was around the age of 15 that he developed a close relationship with his father, who was then very pragmatic and rigorous.

After obtaining his Advanced Level (CAP) , he left Cameroon for France to pursue studies in automobile mechanics. There he obtained a diploma as an automobile expert and became a member of the trade union chamber of automobile experts in Paris , France , where he worked for a few years before returning to Cameroon.

Ben Decca began his career in music in the 1970s in France , while studying automobile mechanics there .

Originating from the south region of Cameroon , he succeeded in thirty years of career, alongside other artists, to democratize the traditional musical rhythm of the Sawa people . Singer of the successful songs titled Ye Te Na Oa released in 1982, and Alane Mba from his album Saphir , Papa Ben, as he is affectionately called by his fans, is an emblematic figure of African and Cameroonian music.

Ben Decca has 25 albums and more than 150 songs to his credit. His twenty-fifth album, Électron Libre , was released in 2017.
