Amber Heard disappointed over jury’s verdict
Its not a news the Johnny Deep filed a case against his ex wife for an article she wrote in 2018 (a year after their divorce) where she tagged herself a “public figure representing domestic abuse.”
Amber Heard on hearing this counter-sued the Pirates of the Caribbean actor to the tune of $100 million.
On Wednesday, a United States jury finally reached a verdict after weeks of an intense trial riding on bitterly contested allegations of domestic abuse.
The seven-member jury in Virginia found both parties liable of defamation and awarded Depp $15 million in damages
Following the win, Amber Expressed disappointment in the judges verdict
According to her in a tweet;
the mountain of evidence was still not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway” of her ex-husband.
She said “the mountain of evidence was still not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway” of her ex-husband.
I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback
It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously
I believe Johnny’s attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive, that we won in the UK
Heard further stated that she was sad to have “lost” the case but “sadder still” as she seems to have lost her right to “speak freely and openly.”
